In 2023 and 2024, Bitlink worked with the Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, the Local Jobs program and local employment providers (including National Job Link (NJL), Workskills Tasmania, and CVGT) to design and deliver a technology careers program for young jobseekers in Tasmania.

This program used the video game industry as a starting point for talking about technology careers more generally.

The program included three distinct components:

  • Digital Skills Workshops: Short, 2-hour workshops in which attendees participated in a workshop that focused on particular digital skills (such as visual design, game design, or computer programming).
  • Gamesfest: A longer program of ~8 weeks and 2 days per week, in which participants explore activities relating to a range of jobs in the games and technology industries, and also develop and showcase a retro-style video game that they have built from scratch.
  • Technology Skills in the Workplace (TSIW): A work-experience-focused program in which participants work in small teams to deliver a project that has real-world business relevance.

The materials that were developed for the TCPP in its entirety can be reviewed using the link below.
